How to measure kitchen wall panels

When measuring your kitchen wall panels you should follow the three following steps:

  1. Decide if you would rather have vertical or horizontal panels.
  2. Measure your wall three times, to avoid any human error – ensure to measure the length and width.
  3. Divide this by the width of a wall panel, by doing this, you can calculate how many panels you will need.

Preparatory cleaning

Before you start installing any panels, it is crucial that you have thoroughly cleaned the area where you are applying wall panels. Ensure that you have removed any mould, grease, residue or any loose plaster before applying your adhesive. This is vastly important to do because if the area is unclean the adhesive will not stick properly.

How to install kitchen wall panels

Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to fit kitchen wall panels:

  1. Measure your kitchen walls 3 times to garner the most accurate results possible, this will reduce the chance of any human error when measuring. After doing this, transfer your measurement onto the panels with a straight pencil line and then cut to size.
  2. Once your panel is cut out and smoothed, apply a liberal amount of adhesive to the back of your panel, securing by place by using screws every 300mm along the tongue of the panel. Do this to every panel and lock each panel with the tongue and groove mechanism.

How to fit plastic coving

  1. Before installing the wall panels, you will need to make sure that you have installed the coving trim ready for the panels to fit into.
  2. Measure the width of the wall 3 times to ensure accuracy, after which you can cut the coving trim to size with the mitre edges.
  3. Once cut, place the coving trim to the wall and screw through the lip section of the trim.
  4. Install the screws approximately every 300mm into the lip of the coving trim.

How to fit panels around a window

  1. Initially, you should slide a panel into place overhanging the window area and mark, with a pencil, the back of the panel where the panels cover the window gap, then score the pencil lines and remove them for smooth edges.
  2. Fit the cut panel to the wall. Specifically, if you are fitting the panels to the interior profile of the window, ensure that you measure the width and depth of the sill and cut a panel to size.
  3. Clip an end cap onto the panel for a flush fit. After which, a generous amount of adhesive should be applied to the reverse side of the panel, and then simply slotted into place.
  4. Follow the same procedure for the two inner walls and the upper area of the window cavity, beginning with the top panel to allow it to be supported by the side panels.
