As we mentioned in our Bathroom Trends for 2021 breakdown, a huge trend for this year is adding black accents to your bathroom. Between black framed shower screens, matte black taps and more, black bathroom accessories are certainly set to make an appearance in contemporary spaces everywhere.

Inspired by industrial-style décor, black accents are particularly suited to today’s modern living, working well in townhouses and city dwellings all over the UK. Aside from being chic and gorgeous, black bathroom accents show no sign of slowing down, making them a perfectly timeless choice for your home.

Black accents don’t have to be reserved for monochrome bathrooms either; they can make pink pop, enhance the moodiness of a dark green, or could even work against bold colours like yellow to make a statement. Here are a few ways you can add black accents into your bathroom – without having to completely redecorate!

Wall panels and waterproof flooring

A great way to add some moody shades of black to your bathroom without making too much of a fuss is through bathroom wall panels.

Using a tile effect panel can allow you to get the luxurious feel of tiling without the extra hassle that comes along with installation and maintenance. Our wall panels are 100% waterproof, as well as easy to clean.

For an extra bit of glitz, consider our black sparkle wall panel – this brings the black accent trend to new heights, replicating a beautiful starry night in your very own bathroom.

If you’re looking for a way to bring in the black and your flooring is getting tired, why not opt for some waterproof flooring? Our anthracite oak waterproof flooring is devastatingly chic and is the perfect way to incorporate natural materials as well as deep black accessories – two trends in one!

Black framed shower screens and enclosures

Shower screens have seen a huge rise in popularity this year, and they don’t show any signs of stopping. Black framed shower screens specifically are used in a multitude of different bathroom themes, both traditional and contemporary, and installing one can give your bathroom a quick makeover.

You could opt either for a shower screen that features individual glass panes separated by black frames, or for a more simple, plain screen with a thin black border around the outside. If you already have a shower screen, you may even be able to have a frame fitted to it!

Taps and showers

In recent years, many homeowners have shunned traditional chrome metalware in favour of more unique touches – brass, gold, and rose gold are the new normal.

However, you can also find beautiful black taps and showers, often in matte finishes, to bring an edge to your space.

Not only do matte black taps exist, but they come in a massive range and because of this are sure to fit into any bathroom with any theme. You could choose minimalistic, modern wall mounted taps for a contemporary feel or waterfall taps for over your basin. Or you could even find traditional, curved taps for a freestanding tub.

Showers also come in a range of different styles, from fully exposed shower systems and electric showers to sleek concealed valves and shower heads.

However, it is worth noting that these accents may not be suited to a family bathroom. They are more difficult to clean, and the finish can be easily chipped.

How to clean black taps

To clean black taps, all you need is a soft micro-fibre cloth and some warm water. Clean gently, ensuring that you do not damage the finish with any abrasive products.

Baths and basins

Providing that you’re happy to add an entirely new installation to your bathroom, there is a huge range of black baths and basins that you could add to your space. Classic roll-topped baths often come in both black and white, and they can be a lovely addition to any bathroom.

Modern freestanding baths also come in a wide array of colours, so if you want something sleeker this may be the way to go.

With bathroom basins, your options may be a touch more limited. Whilst a black tap seems the easiest way to go, you could find a black basin (although these often come in more modern shapes as opposed to traditional). If you can’t find a basin that suits you, you could choose a lighter coloured basin and mount this on a black countertop.

Furniture

We love the idea of upcycling an old vanity by painting it black and perhaps adding gold handles, to fit a basin on top of.

Whilst fully black furniture isn’t hugely popular, there are still plenty of options. You could find black units, as well as black shelving. And, if you don’t want everything to be wholly black, you could opt for furniture with smaller black accents.

Black accessories

If you can think of a bathroom accessory, the likelihood is that you’ll be able to find it in black: towel rings, soap dispensers, toilet roll holders and more.

Find mirrors with black frames or paint the frame of a mirror you already have. Consider adding a black waste as well as a tap, and a bottle holder too.

Even your heating choices could be black, such as a black radiator or heated towel rack.

Black toilet seats look particularly stunning on a traditional toilet and will really add to a monochrome look.
